When Life Doesn't Go as Planned

A Little Ember of Hope | No. 02

Have you ever looked at your life and thought, "Well, this certainly isn't how I pictured things turning out"?

I know I have.

I think most of us grow up imagining how our lives will unfold. We make plans, set goals, dream about our futures, and somewhere along the way, we convince ourselves that if we work hard enough and do everything right, things will somehow fall into place.

But life doesn't always work that way, does it?

Sometimes the plans we were so excited about fall apart. Doors close that we were certain would open. Relationships change. Dreams get put on hold. And sometimes life takes us down a road we never would have chosen for ourselves.

I've had my share of those moments.

Moments when I questioned why things were happening. Moments when I wondered how I was going to pick up the pieces and move forward.

And believe me, there were times when I wished I could just skip ahead a few chapters and see how everything was going to turn out.

Wouldn't that be nice?

But one thing I've learned over the years is that just because life isn't going according to our plans doesn't mean our story is over.

Sometimes we get so caught up in what didn't happen that we forget to appreciate what is still possible.

And sometimes the hardest part isn't accepting that things have changed. It's letting go of the picture we had in our minds of how life was supposed to look.

I've learned that it's okay to grieve the things that didn't work out.

It's okay to feel disappointed.

It's okay to wish things had been different.

Having faith doesn't mean pretending that everything is wonderful when it isn't.

It means being able to bring those feelings to God, even when we don't have the answers.

Looking back at certain seasons of my life, I can see how much I've grown through things I never wanted to experience.

Would I have chosen those difficult roads? Absolutely not.

But did they teach me something about perseverance, compassion, gratitude, and leaning on God?

They certainly did.

And I'm still learning.

I still make plans. I still have dreams. I still get disappointed when things don't work out the way I hoped.

The difference is that I'm learning not to let an unexpected turn convince me that there's nothing good ahead.

Maybe you're in that place today.

Maybe life looks nothing like you imagined.

Maybe you're starting over, facing a change you didn't ask for, or trying to figure out what comes next.

I want to encourage you not to give up on the chapters you haven't lived yet.

You don't have to figure everything out today.

You don't have to know exactly where the road is leading.

And you certainly don't have to pretend you're happy about every unexpected turn.

Just take the next step.

Keep praying. Keep believing. Keep your heart open to the possibility that there is still beauty to be found in the life you're living.

Because sometimes, even when the road changes, we discover strength we never knew we had.

And maybe, just maybe, there's still something beautiful waiting around the bend.

Today's Scripture

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

Hi, I'm Ana

I'm so glad you're here.

If there's one thing I hope you discover while you're visiting this little corner of the internet, it's that no matter what season you're walking through, you never have to walk through it alone.

I'm a faith-inspired author, speaker, and encourager with a passion for helping women find hope, healing, and peace through life's challenges. My faith has carried me through seasons of joy, loss, waiting, and unexpected turns, and those experiences have shaped both my life and my writing.

I wrote Always Enough because I wanted to share my story honestlyβ€”the struggles, the healing, and the incredible faithfulness of God through it all. My prayer is that every reader walks away encouraged, knowing they are deeply loved and never beyond God's grace.

Here on my website, you'll find more than books. Through Coffee & Grace, I share reflections, devotionals, and practical encouragement for everyday life. Whether you're looking for hope, a reminder of God's promises, or simply a quiet place to pause for a few minutes, I hope you'll feel at home here.

When I'm not writing, you'll usually find me with a cup of coffee in hand, spending time with my family, working on a quilting project, or enjoying the beauty of God's creation. I believe some of life's sweetest moments happen in the ordinary, where God gently reminds us that His grace is more than enough.

Thank you for being here and allowing me to be part of your journey. I hope you'll stay awhile, explore, and come back often.

Grace & Peace,

Ana Hale
