Nobody warned me that I would spend years telling my kids to be independent and then feel emotional when they actually listened.
For so long, our days were full of school, work, dinner, laundry, and driving someone somewhere. I used to wish things would slow down a little. Now they are, and Iβm looking around wondering how we got here so fast.
My kids still need me, just differently. Sometimes they want advice. Sometimes they want me to listen. Iβm getting better at telling the difference, although I do occasionally give the advice anyway. Iβm their mom. It happens.
Iβm proud of the people theyβre becoming. I also miss the little voices and the noise around the house. I even miss some of the chaos, which is easy to say now that Iβm not in the middle of it.
As their lives change, mine does too. Iβm starting to ask what I want to do with this season. What do I enjoy? What do I want to try? Where do my husband and I want to go while we still have the energy to go there?
I donβt have answers to all of that yet. Iβm praying, paying attention, and trusting that God is still working in my life. For now, I want to enjoy my family as they are today, make new memories with my husband, and be open to whatever comes next.
It feels a little strange. It also feels like thereβs a lot to look forward to.
Anyone else figuring out this season as they go?
